PE
P.E. Intent
At Western Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the physical and mental health and well-being of the children and we want pupils to leave the school with the necessary skills and desire to form a lifelong association with sport in order to continue to benefit from it in terms of health and social opportunities.
Inspiring ambitious and curious learners
At Western Primary School, we recognise the contribution of P.E. to the physical, mental health and general well-being of the children. We want our pupils to leave the school with the necessary skills and develop to form a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity to continue to benefit from the health and social opportunities that sport offers. In addition, we consider that an outstanding P.E. curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of the children. Through sport, the children further develop the important qualities of discipline, resilience, communication, teamwork, and ambition: qualities that they are then able to use in their learning within the classroom.
Vocabulary
With the support of Sporting Influence, P.E lessons are planned to develop the children’s understanding of sports and fitness. Children are expected to know and understand the vocabulary taught during P.E. lessons and implement this into game/activity situations.
Skills
Lessons are planned to develop skills in gymnastics, ball skills, invasion games, striking and fielding skills and many more. Their improved skill development aims to have an impact on the engagement and quality of work produced by our pupils; they have high self-esteem and the confidence to challenge themselves and critically evaluate each other; they encourage peers to work beyond their comfort zone as well as set and go beyond their personal-best targets.
Exceptional Learning
The P.E. programme is inclusive and available to all pupils regardless of age, gender or ability. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils receive at least 2 hours of high quality, well-planned P.E. per week. These lessons are delivered by confident and well-trained coaches From Sporting Influence, as well as staff and are taught to a high level, guaranteeing both pupil achievement and enjoyment. Staff are offered weekly CPD with Sporting Influence who following a coaching model to develop and support teachers with their own targets.
