History across the school
Posted 21st October 2022
This week across school, we have been celebrating Black History Month.
In EYFS and KS1, children have been learning about famous black people as well as listening to and discussing related stories about diversity.
In KS2, the children have been talking about: what BHM actually is and why we have it, as well as learning about black people who have impacted our world (the famous and the not so famous who have sometimes been 'forgotten' in History). In addition to this, they have also been learning about the Windrush Generation, Enslavement and in Upper KS2, how negatively black people can be portrayed in the media compared to white people, using professional football as an example.
The children have engaged so well with their learning and shown sensitivity as well as outrage when discussing issues such as racism and enslavement.
Please do take a moment to ask your children about their experiences of BHM in school this week!
