Curriculum Intent

Our ambitious curriculum enables all pupils to develop the essential knowledge, skills and understanding to ensure they are ready for the next stage of their learning journey.

The curriculum is designed to be broad and balanced using the National Curriculum as its foundation and with our school values of Kindness, Honesty and Respect at its core.

It is further enhanced by our PSHE programme and wider curriculum, which provide rich, varied and stimulating opportunities to further embed learning and promote personal development. The curriculum is carefully sequenced and layered such that new learning is supported by existing knowledge and understanding. Key knowledge for each curriculum subject is identified for every phase and builds cumulatively throughout the school. Children have regular opportunities to revisit and reflect on what has gone before.

Our curriculum is enriched by our ambitious use of technology which promotes curiosity, creativity and engagement and helps prepare our children for life and work in an increasingly digital future. Our curriculum at Western enables our pupils to leave primary school, ready for the next stage of their education and with an appreciation and love of learning.
