Curriculum Implementation
By knowing their children well, teachers devise lessons that are appropriately pitched, engaging, use challenging vocabulary and develop core skills.
Key knowledge is identified for each phase and staff ensure that previous learning is revisited and built upon. Quizzing is an integral part of this process at Western, with this high challenge, low threat and research-evidenced approach being highly effective for our children. Our 1-2-1 iPad scheme supports this process through the use of the Socrative quizzing app.
Our pedagogical approach to facilitating learning draws on Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction and our own knowledge of what works well for our children. Our innovative use of iPads is also a key element of our approach to implementing our curriculum intent.
